| What are tectonic plates? | Large pieces that the crust is made out of, they move very slowly |
| Why do the tectonic plates move? | Convection currents in the mantle due to radioactive decay |
| What was the Earth's early atmosphere like? | It was formed by volcanoes. It probably consisted of mainly carbon dioxide, there may have been water vapour along with traces of methane and ammonia |
| How was oxygen produced? | As plants spread over the earth, the levels of oxygen increased |

| How can gases be separated? | By fractional distillation of liquid air at really cold temperatures |
