What happens when we heat limestone? Calcium carbonate breaks down to make calcium oxide and carbon dioxide, this reaction is called thermal decomposition
What do carbonates produce when reacted with dilute acid? A salt, carbon dioxide and water
What is the test for carbon dioxide gas? Use limewater, if it turns cloudy then carbon dioxide is present
When water is added to calcium oxide, what does it become? Calcium hydroxide
What does an alkaline do to acids? Neutralises them
What is the limestone reaction cycle? limestone_reaction_cycle.jpg (image/jpg)
How is mortar made? By mixing sand, cement and water together
How is cement made? By mixing limestone and clay in a kiln
How is concrete made? By mixing sand and water with aggregate (crushed rocks or small stones)
