Flashcards
ICT REVISION

Cards in this deck (27)
- 1Input devices- Chip n' Pin
- Magnetic strip
- RFID and Contactless payment - 2Sensors and Computers- Weather stations
- ADC
- Sensors and Actuators - 3Radio frequency identification (RFID)This term is used to describe a type of wireless technology used to identify objects, animal, or people.
- 4Two things an RFID needs to workA tag and a reader
- 5TagA tiny microchip
- 6ReaderSends radio waves to the tag to identify user or object.
- 7RFID USES- Passports
- Businesses for checking stocks
- students entering universities or school - 8Contactless paymentThis is done with credit cards, debit cards, smart cards and other devices. It uses radio frequency identification to read information of the cards. It doesn't have to touch the reader as long as it is in range the payment will happen securely.
- 9Magnetic stripeSimilar to contactless payment it uses RFID, but it has to be swiped into a reader. Normally a magnetic strip reader.
- 10Chip n' pinThis is card is either a credit card or debit card which has a microchip in it and has to be put in a reader which would require the owner to put a pin.
- 11SensorsThis is a device that measures some amount of physical quantity in its environment.
- 12Type of SensorsWeather stations
ADC
Sensors and actuators - 13Sensors and actuatorsFirst when the sensor detects something(e.g a burglar) it sends an alert to the computer. This computer sends the instructions to the actuator. (Here it would be to switch on security lights and sounds)The actuator will do what it was instructed.(switch on security lights and sounds)
- 14Weather stationsWeather stations would have many sensors for example temperature, light pressure - barometer - wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, radiation, etc.
- 15AnalogThe output signal from a sensor
- 16Analog to digital converter : ADCThis converts analog signals into digital signals
- 17TableA structure that stores data in an organised fashion.
- 18RecordsData about one particular thing in a table
- 19Primary keyThis is ensures all records are unique. So the field cannot be used more than once. (E.G. 090292 is primary key here it is an employee id.
- 20Foreign keyThis is a field that links to tables. So the primary key in one table would be the foreign key in the other.

- 21Optical character recognition(ocr)This is software technology used to convert images of text to text files that can be edited.
- 22OMR opitcal mark readerThis is an input device used to scan pencil marks
- 23GUIGraphical user interface allows users to interact with electronic devices by graphical icons.
- 24RFID PROS AND CONSPros: Can transmit from long ranges, hold a lot information, doesn't need to transmit in a direct line of sight. and is very fast.
Cons: Hackers can steal information, can get interference, and more expensive - 25Magnetic stripe pros and consCheap, changeable data, good security.
Easy to copy, lose, damage, and and can store limited data. - 26Contactless payment: Pros and consFast payment + no need to wait in the queue
Data can be stolen, payment error twice, payment error, limit to amount payable. - 27Chip n' pinCan store good amount of data, more secure because pin needed, harder to clone, portable.
Pin can get damged, people forget pin, people can look over your shoulder and steal your pin.
