"what to you want to learn?" "Everything" This shows Rita's enthusiasm to learning. Rita says she want to learn everything because she wants a different lifestyle to live.
"What d' y' think I am, thick?" This will make the audience laugh at Rita as they think she is think.
"begins looking idly round the room" This shows that Rita is looking for distractions so that she doesn't have o work.
"with the real students" This shows that Rita thinks that because she goes to an open university that she isn't considered as a proper student: later on in the play we find that she was completely wrong, this is because she starts to talk to 'Tiger'
"It'll probably have a job findin' my brain" The audience would laugh to this because at the beginning of the play they believe that Rita is just in the working class and that she should not get into the educated class because she works in a hair salon.
"She twirls on the spot to show off her new clothes" This is an important part in the play for Rita as she changes everyone's views on her. This is because she now has enough money to buy new clothes which means that she has a new job. Also it gains the respect of the audience as they don't believe that Rita could ever become educated, which is exactly what she has done.
"cos after that I was askin' questions all week" This earns Rita even more respect as not many people will have the courage to stand up in front of many people and ask a question. This shows Rita's gain in confidence.
" I can have a mind of my own can't I?" This earns Rita respect as she stands up to Frank for the first time and the audience are behind Rita as they believe that he is being selfish because he knows that she is educated and he doesn't like it.
