Young Carer An individual who is under 18 that cares for somebody else
Carer's Allowance Paid at a standard rate of £59.75 per week to carers if they are over 16. They must spend more than 35 hours caring for someone else and aren't in either full time education or earning over £100 a week.
Carer Premium An extra payment of up to £33.30 per week that can sometimes be added to the Carer's allowance.
CAMHS Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services that meet with young carers to help them particularly if they are suffering from self-harm
Social Services Will visit the young carer and the those in their care to check that the situation is appropriate and that the young carer is happy in their situation.
Economic Barriers The parent the young carer is looking after won't be able to work and the young carer may only be able to work part-time which limits their income and means that they have less finances
Societal Barriers Friends may not understand or their may be a stigma relating to the illness (e.g HIV/aids) so the young carer may suffer social isolation. They may also be accused of skiving when they are looking after someone at home.
