Flashcards
Connective Tissues

Cards in this deck (24)
- 1BackgroundAka: lucunae
Interstitial fluid, Adhesion proteins, Proteoglycans
- 2—Collagen Fibrs:
"white fibers"; high tensile strength
- 3—Elastic Fibers
"yellow fibers"; Stretchy
- 4—Reticular Fiber
Branched collagenous fibers; surround blood vessels & support soft tissue organs
- 5-blastindicates forming cell (immature)
- 6-cytemature cells
- 7—Part of Tissue

- 8—Embryonic: Mesenchyme cell;
base cell for all connective tissue; found in embryo; star shaped
- 9—Areolar: gel-like matrix;
Elastic fibers; Collagen; Reticular; fibroblasts; Function: wrap/cushions organs; surrounds capillaries; Found under epithelia: Lamina propria
- 10—Adipose: Fats cells; nucleus pushed to side; Function: reserve food/ insulation/ protects & support organs; Where: under skin/ around kidneys & eyeballs/ withing abdomen/ in breasts; lacks fibers

- 11—Reticular: internal skeleton (stroma) supports other cells; lymphoid organs: lymph nodes, bone marrow, spleen; Reticular fibers

- 12—Dense Regular/ fibrous connective tissue: collagen run parallel; elastic fiber; fibroblast; high tensile one direction; attaches muscles/bones; Tendons, most ligaments, aponeuroses

- 13—Dense irregular: collagen fibers nonparallel; elastic fiber; fibroblast; high tensile many directions; Found in Dermis, submucosa of digestive, fibrous capsules of organs/joints

- 14—Hyaline Cartilage (FIRM): Chondrocyte; Support/ reinforce/ resist compression; Embryonic skeleton, covers ends of long bones in joint cavities, costal cartilage of ribs, cartilage of nose/trachea/larynx

- 15—Elastic Cartilage (FLEX): chondrocytes w/ elastic fiber; Maintains shape while being flexible; Supports external ear (pinna) and epiglottis

- 16—Fibrocartilage Cartilage: Chondrocytes; Collagen fibers; High tensile & absorbs compressive shock; Intervertebral discs, pubic symphysis, discs of knee joint

- 17—Bone (Osseous Tissue): calcified matrix w/ collagen fibers and osteocytes; Store minerals, levers for muscles,

- 18—Red & white blood cells in fluid matrix (plasma); Function: transport gases, nutrients, wastes

- 19ProteoglycansGlycosaminoglycans (GAGs) makes viscous gel for ground substance
- 20Fibroblastconnectibe tissue proper
- 21Chondroblastscartilage (rocks)
- 22OseteoblastsBone
- 23Hematopoietic stem cellsblood
- 24Cells included in Connective TissueWhite blood cells, plasma cells, macrophages, mast cells
