Test for haloalkane Reagents: add NaOH and warm, acidify with HNO3 (to remove carbonate ions) then add AgNO3. Positive Test: white precipitate (chloride), cream precipitate (bromide), yellow precipitate (iodide)
Test for alcahol (primary or secondary) Reagents: Acidified Potassium Dichromate Positive Test: Orange to green
Test for aldehyde Reagents: Fehlings solution Positive test: Blue to brick red precipitate OR Reagents: Tollens solution Positive Test: Silver mirror formed
Test for carboxyllic acid Reagents: Na2CO3 Positive Test: Effervescense
Test for acylchloride Reagents: Add acidified silver nitrate Positive test: Vigorous reaction and white precipitate
