Music 3
Cards in this deck (29)
- 1What are beams in music? They are HORIZONTAL or DIAGONAL lines that are used to connect TWO or more notes that have flags.
- 2TRUE OR FALSE Only notes with flags can be beamed.TRUE
- 3What does each beam represent?A flag
- 4Which of the following notes be beamed? Quarter Note/Crotchet Half note/Minim Sixteenth Note/ Semiquaver Eighth Note/Quaver Whole Note/SemibreveONLY the
Eighth Note/Quaver
AND
Sixteenth Note/Semiquaver
CAN
be BEAMED - 5Why do we use beams in music?Beams allows the music to appear neater. Therefore the music is easier to read.
- 6What can beaming notes help us to identify? They help us to identify the time signature of the piece of music.
They help us to identify/show quarter note beats. - 7TRUE OR FALSE Only shaded notes have a flag.TRUE
- 8What determines the number of beams? The number of flags on the note.
- 9What is the maximum amount of notes that can be beamed?EIGHT
- 10Which direction does the stem of a note turn when it is below the middle line or line 3 of a staff? The stem goes up and is to the right.
- 11Which direction does the stem of a note turn when it is above the middle line or line 3 of a staff? The stem goes down and it is to the left.
- 12Which direction does the stem of a note turn when it is on the middle line or line 3 of a staff? The stem can go either direction: left or right, up or down. You can choose the one that looks the best.
- 13What happens if you are going to beam two notes and their stems are opposite from each other? You should flip the one that is closer to the middle line or line 3 on the staff to match the note that is farther away.
- 14What happens if you are going to beam three or more notes and their stems are opposite from each other? You should change the direction of the notes that are closest to the middle line or line 3 to match the note that is farthest away.
- 15Practice beaming different types of notes at different pitches and at the same pitch..................................................................................
- 16What is a tie?Is a curved line that is used like a addition symbol. It is used to add the value of TWO notes together. The notes MUST have the same pitch and be next to each other.
- 17How many notes can be tied together?TWO notes and they MUST have the same pitch
- 18NOTEA tie is always written from note head to note head.
- 19TRUE OR FALSE A tie can extend across the bar line.TRUE
- 20What is the grouping of notes? It is when notes with smaller values are often "grouped" into beats corresponding to the time signature. For example, following a 4/4 time signature, two eighth notes can be grouped together because when they are added together they equal to a quarter note. In a 4/4 time signature there must be four groups of quarter notes.
- 21NOTEGrouping and beaming are opposite of each other. You use beams to beam notes together to match the time signature and the notes must be shaded and have a flag. While you use brackets or circles to group notes to match the time signature and the notes you're beaming do not have to be shaded nor have a flag.
- 22NOTEYou can group an augmentation dot and a note together if they equal to the amount of beats of the quarter note.
- 23What are Dotted Notes? The dot adds half the value of the note it is standing beside
- 24When there is a dot beside a whole note/semibreve, what is the value of that note?6 beats
- 25When there is a dot beside a half note/minim, what is the value of that note?3 beats
- 26When there is a dot beside a quarter note/crotchet, what is the value of that note?1 1/2 beats
- 27When there is a dot beside an eighth note/quaver, what is the value of that note?3/4 beat
- 28Practice ties (with and without dotted notes)............................................................................
- 29Practice grouping the different notes together......................................................................................
