Augustan Ideal Very different from Homeric ideal, lacks the idea of individual glory. Focus that Rome comes first and Pietas. Mos Maiorum, good political and military leader, brave, dutiful, loyal, clementia.
Clementia Showing mercy, compassion and leniancy. Relates to the Roman aim of peace and stability.
Furor An emotion of complete madness, mania, rage and fury that can dispel intelligent thinking.
Pater Familias Pater - father. Head of the family, used as a political term as well.
Patronymic Epithet Epithet that relates to patronage as oppose to title due to deeds. e.g. Augustus Caesar
Patriarchal Lineage The oldest man is the head fo the family and constantly in full control, the lineage would always derive from the male line. Mean't citizenship laws were very fluid.
Pietas It roughly translates to mean respect for ancestors, country and institution (Rome). A form of extreme patriotism. Associated with duty, honour and respect.
Portents, Prophecy and Foreshadowing Often provides an advanced sign of what is to come in the future.
Zoomorphism Attribution of animal characteristics or qualities to a god - or use of animal forms in symbolism.
