1865 Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society.
1920 First attempt to climb Mount Everest made by a British team which included George Mallory.
1922 The first recorded deaths on Everest occur when a group of people, part of a British expedition, die in an avalanche.
1953 First summit of Everest accomplished by Edmund Hillary, from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, from India.
1975 Junko Tabei (Japan) becomes the first woman to summit Everest.
2003 A Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura of 70 years becomes the oldest person ever to reach Everest's summit. On 2013 he did one more time.
2007 The first cellphone call was made from the top of Everest by Rod Baber, a British climber. - "It's cold, it's fantastic, and the Himalayas are everywhere"
2012 Everest had been climbed 5,656 times with 223 deaths.
2015 334 climbing permits were extended for free. This was by the Nepal's earthquake. (10,000USD for foreigners).
2016 As of 2016, there are well over 200 corpses still on the mountain, with some of them even serving as landmarks.
