Flashcards
3.3.4 - Transpiration
Cards in this deck (6)
- 1Define transpiration.Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the aterial parts of a plant, mostly through the stomata of the leaves.
- 2What membrane prevents loss of water?Waxy cuticle.
- 3Describe the transpiration process.Water enters spongy mesophyll and evaporates from it, then the water vapour diffuses out of the plant through stomata.
- 4Why is transpiration essential?Because water being lost draws water up through the plant, maintaing a transpiration stream.
- 5What are the environmental factors which effect transpiration rates?Light intensity
Wind speed
Temperature
Water availability
Humidity - 6What measures the rate of transpiration?A potometer.
