Question Answer
Human Geography- Case Studies -One Child Policy -Transmigration France's Solution Poland to England Migration
One Child Policy Was set in 1979 because China was heading into a famine -Must not marry unit their late 20's -Only one successful pregnancy -salary rase 5-10% However if second child is born couples would have to face a salary cut and things such as education and health care would have to be payed for
Advantages of the One Child Policy - Famine focused to happen did not occur -people had enough food -more job opportunities -education was equitable -400 million fewer people were born -increased standard of living for many people
Disadvantages of the One Child Policy -Women were forced to have abortions as late as 9 months into pregnancy - gender inequality as boys where the favoured gender therefore caused girls to either be kill or abandoned there ended up being 60 million more males then females -many people say that the single child will be more spoilt therefore more greedy - the government and officials had control of peoples private life - it caused an ageing population
Transmigration (Indonesia) In 1969 Indonesia introduced the transmigration project It moved people from densely populated areas such as java to more sparsely populated areas such as West Papua In 2006 20,000 families took advantage of this programme In 2010 250,000 families wanted to move however, the government was only able to sponsor 10,000
Transmigration- Indonesia (economic) - Critics say that this project simply re-distibuted poverty - many new migrants lacked the necessary farming skills to make productive use of their new land - settlements were poorly planed with only a few shops and water services, sanitation was poor re-settlent costed $US7,00 per family
Transmigration- Indonesia (social) - Many clashes between migrants occurred such as in 2001, 500 local Dayaks died due to conflict between Madurese transmigrants - traditional land rights were often ignored - religious clashes
Transmigration- Indonesia (Political) -critics have suggested that to was encouraged by the government primarily to increase national security and control indigenous people - despite the problems the project has redistributed 20 million people however, the population is still increasing in cities therefore would be much worse with out the programme
Indonesia (Future) - Birth Control programmes have led to a slowing down of population growth -since the 1990's the government has encouraged industrialisation this will naturally attract workers to these parts
France's solution France is tackling an ageing population therefore has set up policies to encourage couples to have more children -three years parental leave full-time schooling paid by the government -day care for children under 3 -the more children a women has the earlier she is allowed to retire on a full pension
Poland to England Migration Since 2004, 1.5 million Eastern Europeans have entered the UK, 2/3's of whom are polish Most have found formal jobs with much better pay then they would receive home Polish workers in the UK earn 5 times as much as the would in Poland Polish workers earn money and pay tax with contributes positively to the economy however, a few may only come to the Uk to use the welfare systems causing the government to lose money
GOOD LUCK -Don't stress! - The worst thing you can do is panic! _You can do this!
