Input & Output Devices
  1. Manual Input Devices
    1. Definition of input devices : Hardware Devices that allow data to be entered into a computer.
      1. Definition of Manual Input Devices : Data that is entered by hand.
        1. Manual Input devices require humans to do most of the work needed to get the data. For Example : If you are using a keyboard to input instructions into the computer, you need to press the keys yourself.
        2. Examples of Manual Input Devices : Keyboard, Remote Control, Joystick, Scanner, Graphics Tablet, Microphone
        3. Direct Input Devices
          1. Definition : No human interaction needed to collect data
            1. For example : All human just have to point the reader at the barcode scanner. The reader will do the rest
            2. Example of Direct Input devices : Magnetic stripe reader, Chip and pin reader, Barcode reader, Optical Mark Reader ( OMR ), Optical Character Reader ( OCR )
            3. Sensors
              1. Definition : A devices which automatically inputs data into a computer system, where the data can be changed anytime.
                1. Used to detect data in the surrounding environment that constantly changes. For example : Temperature - measuring heat in a room, Light - setting off a burglar alarm, Humidity - detecting when plants are too dry
                  1. Examples of sensors : Temperature, Pressure, Light, Sound, Humidity, pH
                    1. Uses of sensors
                      1. Sensors are used in monitoring and control applications. When monitoring, data is sent directly to some sort of computer, is then processed and used.
                    2. Output Devices
                      1. Definition : Hardware devices that allow information to be sent out of a computer system.
                        1. Output devices are part of the 4 main hardware components of a computer system.
                          1. Examples of Output Devices : CR Monitor, TFT Monitor, Laser Printer, Inkjet Printer, Plotter, Speakers
                          2. Control Devices
                            1. Definition : Output devices that work in conjunction with sensor input devices and commands from computers in order to control a process.
                              1. Control devices are output devices that work together with sensors.
                              2. Example of Control Devices : Motor, Buzzer, Heater, Light/Lamp
