   • This policy had prevented 300 000 births

4. In 1950, Chinese couples were advied to have children to build a strong army and help with food supplies

   • This lead to problems with food, this is turn lead to a great famine.

5. Couples mainly wanted boys so they could carry on the family name.

   • This then lead to problems such as abortions (sometimes illegally)
   • This also lead to orphanages being filled quickly because girls were being disregarded and dumped .

6. Couples with only one child gained benefits such as longer maternity leave.
