Renaissance Art

1. Context

   • Renaissance was created when Petrarch an Italian Poet and scholar of Latin was able to reconcile Christianity and the Classical thinking (Greek and Roman people).
   • Humanism is the other name for Renaissance, because the center is human.

2. Artists

   • Filippo Brunelleschi
     • Was an architect, engineer, sculptor and Mathematic that discovered the linear perspective structure, dimensional forms and applied vanishing points on it.
   • Donatello
     • He developed the old Roman styles of sculpture and ornamentation. Also he used classical techniques like: Contrapposto in its designs.
   • Leonardo Da Vinci
     • Was a talented painter, sculptor, scientist, architect and even a military engineer.
   • Michael Angelo Buonarroti
     • Was a sculptor and painter, that combined renaissance ideals of classical beauty and naturalism. He painted the Sixtine Chapel.
   • Raphael Sanzio
     • He became a favorite of the pope and painted the school of Athens, in which the position of the philosophers represents their thought.

3. Mannerism

   • Mannerist artists intentionally distorted and stylized the human body and spatial relationships.
