Secondary Storage

  1. Solid state (SSD)

    • Portable devices because the solid state is more durable. This is because it has no moving parts.
    • It is also used for high end computers. This is because they have a better performance as they have a faster transfer speed
    • They have a limited read and write amount meaning after a certain amount of use the SSD will stop working
  2. Magnetic (HDD)

    • For desktops and servers. This is because it is more cost effective so it is cheaper to have more storage.
      • It is also used for these devices because they are not moved around much. This is needed because the hard drives has moving parts so if it was moved around al ot it has a high chance to break.
    • It is also used for low end devices as it is cheaper.
  3. Optical(CD,DVD,Blu-Ray)

    • Films , games and music this is because it is the most portable and can only store a small amount.
    • They are also used for data that you want to take to places.
    • It is also used for software but this is not happening as much as optical are getting pushed away because it is easier to download nline.
    • The optical disks are very useful as well because because they are extremely cost effective compared to the magnetic storage and solid state.
