APPLICATION TO REAL LIFE: LOP can be applied to real life as it shows that we remember information that is processed semantically rather than phonetically or structurally processed information.
SUPPORT: Support for LOP comes from Craik and Tulving. This is because the participants didn't actually know they were taking the test, therefore they were using different levels of processing. 80% remembered semantically processed words whilst 18% remembered structural words.
- CRITICISMS: Criticisms of Craik and Tulving include: -low ecological validity as it was a lab experiment, -demand characteristics, -confounding variables, -p's didn't give informed consent.
