   • at the start of the play, he is king, and he's a kind and generous giving man
   • nobody has anything bad to say about him
   • he trusts Macbeth, and doesn't suspect he planning to kill him
   • Kind: "let me unfold thee/And hold thee to my heart"
   • Trusting: "There's no art/ to find the minds construction in the face"

2. he's an example of a good king

   • model king: kind, honest and fair
