Metallic Nature
Melting and Boiling Points
Reaction with air or Oxygen
Reaction with Water: They react with water and form Alkali (base) and releases Hydrogen gas. 2Na+2H2O --> 2NaOH + H2
Increase down the group: Reasons: Number of shells increased down the group, less nuclear attraction, more e-e repulsion (more shielding)
Decrease down the group: Number of shells increased down the group(size increased), less nuclear attraction, more e-e repulsion (more shielding), e- are easy to removed down to the group
Decrease down the group: More no of shells, less nuclear attraction, more e-e repulsion, not easy to attract the electrons
Metallic Character increased: less IE down the group hence more metal
Decrease down the group. Size increased, less nuclear attraction, more e-e repulsion. metallic bond is less strong, easy to break.
Nature of Oxides: Burn in air or oxygen. M2O 4Na + O2 --> 2Na2O Their Oxides are basic in nature as they form base when dissolve in water Na2O + H2O -> 2NaOH
