I. The Salem trial

In the 17th century, the puritains were banned from Europe because of their religion so they decided to go to live in America, they're what we call the settlers or "Pilgrim Fathers". But in the middle of the century, in Salem, Massachusetts, many women and some men were accused of witchcraft by the rest of the community.

In the first picture, we see two women in a trial ( the judge is wearing a wig) and the people are pointing fingers at them and certainly insulting them while they're begging god to help them. The second picture is an high-angle shot where we see a woman (certainly a puritan because of the strict clothes) begging us ( the specific shot give a superiority felling to the viewer) then again people are pointing their fingers and they're encircling her so that's there is no escape. If she is guilty she can be hanged or burnt. next to her there is a ragdoll which can serve her to bewitch people with a pin to avange herself.

I. village of fear

the document is a play, "the crucible" written by Arthur Miller in 1953. The extract is a dialogue between Abigail and her uncle Parris, who is also the reverrand of salem. A. and her cousin Betty were discovered by Parris dancing into the woods, Betty with the surprise fainted and she didn't recover yet so her father thinks that is the "devil at work" and that they were practicing witchcraft. Parris is angry because if it's known that the girls of his family were dancing inthe wood his ennemies would ruin him. A. is quavering because of the situation and if it is knwon that they're making heathen rituals the people would distrust her, she would be banned of the community and maybe worse

the picture goes with the text it's the poster of movie the crucible where we see 5 girls dancing around a couldron and on the top there is the picture of a couple of actors with their name above.

trailer of "the crucible"

plot: A Salem resident, Abigail attempts to frame her ex-lover's wife, Elisabeth for being a witch in the middle of the 1692 witchcraft trials.

in the first scene of the trailer, we see Abigail being rejected by John Proctor. She'll not accept it so she will do every thing to kill Elisabeth, john's wife even accusing her of witchcraft and when she'll be suspected herself she will claim that she is "god's finger" and step by step the whole town will become hysterical and every one will be the accuser or the accused

in a scene we see a woman going to the public square where she'll be hanged because " what happens to your soul is a matter of public" and it serve the people to do a catharsis, by seeing a witch being hanged all the bad in them will be gone with the soul of the dead plus it's a manichean system so you're either good or bad there is no shades.
