The Writer uses a list of 3 including noun phrases to describe the Setting like '' Freshly painted shutters, well-polished brasses and general cleanness''

This Suggests that the objects are clean and shiny. This implies that the shutters and brasses have been well cared to keep an eye on the passenger.

Pg.1 The writer begins by using reference to 'sheer boredom' at start. This creates tension because it makes the reader want to read more and find excitement. The Word 'boredom' creates contrast with the rest of the text.

Pg.2 Next the writer develops changes focus on '' Gas! Gas!''. This is interesting because it makes the reader want to know who survived the poisonous gas and the writer has also used a exclamatory sentence. This develops the readers tension further onto the story which makes the reader wonder who is gonna die or survive.

Pg.3 Finally the writer ends the text by '' A Hun in a gas mask is standing over me, his rifle aimed at my head''. This hooks the reader because it makes the reader wonder who the enemy in the gas mask is and why the gun is aimed at the head. This develops the readers attention towards reading more of the story.

It allows the reader to imagine and feel how a gas mask helps someone to relieve and survive a poisonous gas. The words' A Gas mask is like God, son' has an effect on the readers image of someone trying to survive a terrible gas.

Pg.2 By the writer using a metaphor to describe the burning lungs we get the idea that its dangerous and deadly. It affects the reader by making them imagine putting them selves in others shoe.

Example:

I feel the judder of the train as it pulls into the station. My heart sinks and i taste panic bitter in my mouth. The screeching of tancy echoes

in my brain all of a sudden my head pounds like drum sticks that hits the drum. As it pulls into the station, i feel the judder of the train.

I feel the screeching of the dull train as it comes closer to the edge of the station. My mind stays blank for a second and i taste the cold crusty biscuits that linger around the corner of my mouth. Suddenly, the doors open wide and i hear people shouting across from one end to another as i step out i hear everything that can pierce through my ear as if my ear is going to be death. My heart pounds every second like a drum stick that slams on top of a drum.

I see a lost child crying very heavily near the train like her tears burst out with laughter. I see young kids running down in a hurry out of breath, breathing like a snapping and barking dog. The second i see polices my heart stops like a frozen ice cube that seeks through the edge of my heart. I can hear the flash of the camera lighting every minute of the shots of the picture. The whizzing zip of the handbag that buzzez across my ear like a rotten and hairy bug.
