What is Momentum?

What is Momentum - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2htckwDkugI
A change in momentum happens when a force is applied to an object that is moving or is able to move.
The total momentum in an explosion or collision stays the same.
For example, what is the momentum of a 5 kg object moving with a velocity of 2 m/s?
Momentum = 5 × 2 = 10 kg m/s
Before anything happens, momentum is 0.

Momentum 3 A moving object has momentum. This is the tendency of the object to keep moving in the same direction. It is difficult to change the direction of movement of an object with a lot of momentum.
You can calculate momentum using this equation:
momentum (kg m/s) = mass (kg) × velocity (m/s)
Notice that momentum has:
magnitude - an amount because it depends on the object’s mass
direction - because it depends on the velocity of the object
A van with a mass of 2000kg is travelling at 30mm/s. It collides with a stationary car with a mass of 800kg. Both the van and the car continue moving together. Calculate the velocity of the van and car together.
METHOD
1) Mass of car + Mass of van = total mass
2) momentum of car + momentum of van = total.
3) total momentum/total mass = velocity
e.g 60,000/ 2800 = 21.4 m/s (velocity)
