Aims - Removal of the adhering soil along with the microorganisms carried by the soil.

Method

Instrument

Dumping the potatoes in a water tank(steel drum) that will remove most of the surface dirt debris.

Can be further cleaned by passing them under a series of high-pressure spray nozzles directing chlorinated water (150 ppm hypochlorous acid)

Cut in half and fitted with drain holes

Covered with split rubber or plastic hose

Aims - Removal of rotten, diseased, infected and cut fruits.

Workers sit close to piled potato heap and sort damaged, diseased and green potatoes by hand

Workers stand on both sides of the belt conveyer, pick up the undesirable tubers and put it on another belt conveyor which separated the desirable from the undesirable tubers
