- 1WHAT IS A CELL?A cell is the basic unit of all living organisms. It cannot be seen with a naked eye as it is microscopic. All cells come from per-existing cells through cell division
- 2—
- 3What are OrganellesComponents that make up the inside of a cell
- 4Cell membraneOut membrane of the cell that controls movement in and out of the cell
Living-Has the ability to damage - 5Cytoplasmcarry out life processes and all chemical reactions of life take place here
Jelly like mixture that fills the inside of the cell
Contains dissolved mixtures
Surrounded by cell membrane and contains hereditary material - 6NucleusDirects and controls cell activities
Seperated from cytoplasm by nuclear membrane
contains genetic material -deoxyribonucleic acid which is information to reproduce - 7Nuclear MembraneSurrounds Nucleus
Has openings that allow material such as Chromosomes to enter and leave nucleus - 8NucleolusInside nucleus
Contain RNA to build protein - 9ChromosomesFound in the nucleus
Made of DNA
Contain instructions for traits and characteristics - 10MitochondriaReleases energy from food during respiration by breaking down fats and carbohydrates.
Number of mitochondria depends on the activities of that cell - 11Endoplasmic ReticulumMoves material around inn a cell
smooth type - lacks ribosomes
Rough type - ribosomes embedded on surface - 12RibosomesEach cell contains thousands
Make protein-reserve source of energy
Found on the ER floating through the cell - 13Golgi BodiesMoves materials within the cell
Moves materials out of the cell - 14LysosomesTransport undigested material to cell membrane for removal
