Why did new technologies lead to poorer working conditions in the textiles industry	Profiteering 'capitalists' were more interested in making money., than in the working conditions of their employees
Why did the rise of the factory bring misery to many working class children	Children were cheaper for factory owners t employ and easier to manipulate. Orphans also provided a free labour force
Why did some enlightened employers realise that profits could still remain high if they treated their employees well	Some factory owners such as Robert Owen at New Lanark introduced shorter hours, minimum working age, education and 'positive punishment'
Did the introduction of Factory Acts lead to limited improvements for textile workers	Whist it was difficult to monitor working conditions and practices within the factories, the government did introduce a series of Acts that were intended to improve the lives of those who worked within them: particularly children

How did the Commissioners' report shock Members of Parliament and encourage them to pass legilation	In 1842 they passed the Mines Act which brought about changes in mine work
