              1. King Edward promised the throne
                1. In the past William had looked after Edward's family. William will also gain lots of Edwards followers as no one wants to go against the Kings promise
                2. William forced Harold to swear an Oath
                  1. Harold was captured by William and forced to make oath to William. This shows he is a bad man.

                    1. To raise the keep on higher ground

                      1. Where the community would get together a bit like a market square

                        1. To provide protection so it was hard for any trespassers to come in

                          1. For protection around the castle if anyone passes the ditch/moat

                          1. The king grants land to the Barons,knights and Villeins
                            1. Barons give money and an army
                              1. Knights provide military service
                                1. Villeins Provides food and services when demanded

                                              1. Hard to travel between 2 countries
                                                1. Needs an army
                                                2. Battle of Hastings

                                                    1. Why he lost
                                                      1. he just fought a battle beforehand
                                                        1. Over-confident he just won the last one

                                                        1. Why he won
                                                          1. He thought the Gods were with him so he had confidence
                                                            1. He was prepared and ready
                                                              1. He didn't have to walk for 5 days to get there
