Methods Hitler used to keep control over people and why they woreked
Propaganda and censorship
- Nazi's used huge amounts of propaganda in form of posters, radio broadcasts, films and through their control of the press
- Any anti-Nazi views suppressed through censorship.
- Effective because many Germans came to be persuaded by the propaganda and believed the nazis and thus had no reason to oppose their rule
- Censorship prevented opposing views even reaching, never mind persuading the people
Generating the climate of fear
- Nazi's used the terror methods to enforce their rule.
- Gestapo and SS operated above the law and could arrest and torture at will.
- Execution or imprisonment in a concentration camp the result.
- People encouraged to 'denounce' each other, creating a climate of suspicion and mistrust
- Effective because most people too scared of consequences to oppose the Nazi's
- Simply not prepared to run the risk of them and their famillies.
- Made Nazi's seem too powerful to be worth opposing
