Hemodynamic
BP= flow * resistance
Blood pressure
Necessary to overcome friction and elastic forces and sustain blood flow
The heart is responsible for blood pressure
Blood pressure
140/90 is high blood pressure
High blood pressure- the silent killer; people can't feel that they have it
1/4 people have mild high blood pressure
Systole pressure- result of systole (believe pressure in the ventricles)
Diastole- lowest pressure in your arteries
Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)
Average arterial pressure during a single cardiac cycle
Take blood pressure and break it down to a single number
Factors That Influence Arterial Blood Pressure
Blood volume shouldn't really change day to day or minute to minute unless something else is happening
Why is blood pressure dropping? Losing blood and decreasing stroke volume (the stroke volume is what you feel when you take a pulse)
If stroke volume is going down, the heart rate is increasing by maintaining cardiac output
Blood viscosity- thickness of blood
When blood is very viscous, the heart has to pump harder because it takes more force
As long as you are drinking water, it will keep your viscosity in homeostatic
Volume and viscosity don't really change but heart rate does
Peripheral resistance increases (cardiac output)
This changes all the time
Resistance to blood vessels
When you decrease this, invite blood to come into this direction
Cardiovascular Regulation
The purpose is to make sure tissue per-fusion is appropriate
Three different ways the system is regulated:
Local: Right here in the capillary beds (capillary site of exchange)
Occur at rest
Neural Regulation
