Emily Mawson Psychology GCSE Englisch 31 Karten

Karten in diesem Stapel (31)

  1. 1Which factors do the multi-store model link to?Space and Time
  2. 2What are the names of the three stores?Sensory store, Short term memory (STM) and Long term memory (LTM)
  3. 3What is the capacity of the sensory store?Everything Around us
  4. 4What is the duration of the sensory store?2-3 Seconds
  5. 5What has to happen in order for information to go into the sensory store?Encoding
  6. 6What has to be payed to information for it to go into the short term memory?Attention
  7. 7What is the capacity of the STM5-9 Chunks
  8. 8What was the duration of the STM10-20 Seconds
  9. 9What is displacement? When the capacity is exceeded, old information is shunted out to make room for new information
  10. 10What is decay? When old, unused information fades over time.
  11. 11What has to occur for info to go into the LTM?30 seconds of maintenance rehearsal
  12. 12What is the capacity and duration of the LTM?Unlimited
  13. 13What kind of information is stored in the LTM?Semantic/Repeated
  14. 14What happens to information when it is outputted? It goes back into the STM and is outputted
  15. 15What is the criticism for the Multi-Store model relating to Individual differences? The model ignores individual differences. It assumes that each person's memory has the same structure and doesn't account for the fact that some people have better exams than others e.g Derren Brown
  16. 16What is another criticism of the multi-store model relating to the STM and LTM?The model oversimplifies the STM and the LTM. The STM is not just a store that info passes through as it is more active and can deal with different info at once. Also, there is more than one LTM store e.g.there may be multiple stores for different memories.
  17. 17What is the criticism for the multi store model relating to rehearsal? The model over-emphasizes the role of rehearsal. Not all LTM info has to be repeated like meaningful things e.g. if you have a fun day out or bad memory, you don't have to go over it to remember it.
  18. 18Who conducted the CW study?Wilson et al
  19. 19Why did Wilson et al want to study CW?Because he had both retrograde and anterograde amnesia
  20. 20What was the aim of the CW study? To document the neurophysiological assessments and psychological experiences of Clive Wearing, who suffered both retrograde and anterograde amnesia
  21. 21What was the research method for thel
  22. 22What was the sample for the CW study?1 Man, Clive Wearing
    additional info:
    - born in 1938
    - outstanding musician
  23. 23what was the apparatus?MRI Scan
  24. 24What was the events that took place in 1985?March- CW started getting headaches and fever, he went to the hospital and was diagnosed with herpes simplex virdi encephalitis (HSVE). He was experiencing memory loss but his semantic memory still significantly remained. His STM was normal but his LTM was severely impared and his IQ decreased
  25. 25What were the events that took place in 1991?In July, an MRI scan was carried out on CW's brain. This showed that there was damage to the hippocampus. There were also abnormalities in other brain areas.
  26. 26What were the events that took place in 2006?A second MRI scan was carried out in January 2006. Despite all new technology, there was little change.
  27. 27What were the results for the CW study?Clive wearing was found to suffer from marked brain abnormalities, retrograde and anterograde amnesia, could not transfer from STM to LTM, Decreased verbal performance IQ, Loss of Episodic Memory (autobiographical, context), some loss of semantic memory
  28. 28What was the conclusion for the CW study?Brain Damage in the hippocampal and limbic regions affect the social and cognitive interactions of the individual, the viral infection encephalitis can lead to severe brain damage/abnormalities, Brain damage can result in both retrograde and anterograde amnesia
  29. 29What was the criticism for the study relating to sample?Case studies only have a small sample and can't generalise this for everyone. There is not enough people who have suffered the severity of the brain damage. Just because the virus gave CW retrograde and anterograde amnesia, doesn't mean it will for everyone.
  30. 30what is the criticism for the study relating for the research method?Case studies are generally unreliable. Research would be difficult to replicate. Not many people suffer from both amnesias
  31. 31What is the criticism for the study relating to the researcher?Researcher may become too involved and are no longer objective. CW could have been delusional but Wilson reported this was a justifcation as she spent time with Clive. CW's researcher could have gotten too involved and biased
