   • Long term memory refers to memories that can last up to a lifetime

     • Bahrick demonstrated the considerable duration of LTM by asking people of various ages to put names to faces from their high school year book.. 48 years later people were about 70% accurate

   • The capacity of LTM is potentially unlimited!

3. Encoding

   • Memory is encoded through semantic coding which involves coding information in terms of what it means.
   • Baddley
     • Baddley tested the effects of acoustic and semantically similarity on short term and long term memory. He found that people had difficulty remembering semantically similar words in thr LTM but not with remembering acoustically simalar words
