1. Multi store model

   • Sensory store
     • This is the senses- one store for each
     • Have to pay attention to the information coming in otherwise it doesn't get passed on to the STM store

2. The STM

   • Duration
     • A few seconds
     • Peterson and peterson's study
     • Studies show how quickly the information can vanish from the STM if people don't make a conscious effort to retain it
     • Factor that effects the duration is maintenance rehearsal- repeating info in your head
   • Capacity
     • Baddley et al 1975- recall shorter words than longer ones, could recall as many as they could say in 2 secs.
     • Other countries have longer and more complicated words so they have different capacities
     • Reading aloud increases recall accuracy
     • 7 +/- two, Miller
   • Encoding
     • Acoustically
     • Chemical memory trace used to recall information
     • other methods of encoding are possible, other studies have shown
       • These methods could include visual encoding
