2. Aim: To test the cognitive interview in the field

3. Detectives were asked to record the standard interviews they usually used

   • 4 months

4. Detectives were then divided into two groups and one group was trained in cognitive interviews

   • Interviews by both groups were recorded over the next seven months
     • These techniques were then analysed by blind researchers

5. After training, detectives elicited 47% more information than before

   • 63% more information than the untrained detectives
