1. BHARICK ET AL

   • A: To see how long memories last in LTM
   • P: 392 American High School former students (Tested their memory using yearbooks)
     • They had graduated at different years
   • 1. Recall class mates with no picture
     • 2. Recognition of class mates in pictures from the high school yearbook
       • 3. Matching names to pictures
   • F: Performed better at recognition task than recall task
     • Dip in performance after 47years
   • C: Certain things can be remembered for almost a lifetime

2. A02

   • Strength: Used a meaningful stimulus (High school year books) to test peoples memories from their own lives - high in external validity
   • Longitudinal study - difficult & expensive to replicate in a library
   • Less control over extraneous variables
     • E.G. It is unclear if the dip in performance after 47yrs is due to the time period or effects of aging
     • E.G. Not clear whether other factors have influenced the DV (some of the pp's may have looked at their high school year book often-some don't)
     • NO clear cause & effect relationship between time passing & duration in LTM
