- 1Working Memory Model ~Central Executive~Acts as a conductor and coordinates the activity of the slave systems: phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketch pad.
It starts the rehearsal process, inhibits irrelevant information and retrieves information from the long term memory.
It is modality free but has a limited capacity. - 2Working Memory Model ~Phonological Loop~Can store and repeat phonological information for 20-30 seconds.
Information is coded acoustically.
Contains the phonological store which receives sound input.
Information decays after 2 seconds unless it is rehearsed by the articulatory control system.

This shows there are separate short term memory components for visual and verbal information.
-The model is used as a measure of intelligence in real life, when it is used to recruit people in the US air force.
-PET scans show that the brain is separated into visual and spatial components.
-Bunge et al (1975) used FRMI and found out that brain areas were more active when doing dual tasks rather than a single task. This shows that increased attention leads to greater brain activity.
-Baddeley et al (1975) found that when asked to recall words, participants were able to recall more short words than long words. They found that the capacity of the phonological loop is 1.5 seconds. - 6Working Memory Model ~Negative evaluation~-Case studies are low in reliability because they are unique cases that can be affected by many things, such as trauma.
-Central executive functions are vague and difficult to test scientifically so we cannot fully understand it's role.
-Research involving dual tasks is unethical because participants felt distressed and frustrated doing them.
