- 1What suggested that the cognitive self is needed to produce autobiographical memories?Only two of the toddlers realised that the mirror image was themselves. Also the only two that remembered where the lion was place two weeks previously.
- 2Who are the 'big boys' of memory?Hippocampi! They receive information about every moment of our lives
- 3What did MRI scans show when thinking about the past and the future, and what does this suggest?Similar neural activity - exactly the same parts of the brain. Suggests we need memory to construct imagination.
- 4In memory, what is Propanolol used for, and how does it work. It's a beta blocker that is used to tone down memories, such as for PTSD patients. it inhibits the proteins that makes memories 'fluid' again.
- 5Where are memories stored? In the connections between brain cells - we don't really know how though
- 6What happens when you recall, or bring back, a memory? It becomes fluid, or malleable again
- 7Why does white matter in the brain change with age?~Probably to do with the fact that the blood flow to the brain becomes unhealthier as you get older, while causes cells to die, and in turn, causes memories to diminish.
- 8What percentage of the chemicals in the blood do you lose when you reach the age of 80-90?~50%
- 9What causes Alzheimer's?Toxic proteins building up in the brain, which affects its function.
