  1. 1what is the acronym to remember what to include when analysing a product?S - ustainability
    M - aterials
    M - anufacture
    C - ompetition + cost
    E - rgonomics
    F - orm
    F - unction
  2. 2explain why we look at the function?disassembling a product can help you find out how it works and how structured
  3. 3explain form?(this is the shape and look of the product) also known as aesthetics ,, product could have curves, be angular, old-fashioned or modern {texture, look, decoration}
  4. 4what is ergonomics about, explain it?how easy and comfortable the product is to use. Products need to be designed so that their size and proportions fit the user's needs. Designers use body measurement data [ANTHROPOMETRICS] to make sure the product is the right and shape
  5. 5explain competition and cost?need to consider value for money when analysing a product, if cheaper or money then similar hairdryers, and also how it performs compared to these other hairdryers
  6. 6explain sustainability?need to see if by making or using the product harms the environment. E.g. cars emitting CO2 which causes global warming.
  7. 7explain materials (why look at it )?look at what materials been used, and why chosen
  8. 8explain looking at manufacture?Need to consider all the processes that have been used to make it. Includes things like what techniques where used to shape various parts. And also check is any parts haven been assembled separately and put into the product later [this is called SUB-ASSEMBLY]
  9. 9why is it important to analysis the materials?as you need to think about the environmental impact of the materials used. Some are toxic (some paints/varnishes), some made from finite resources
  10. 10what =s the alternative to non-sustainable materials?sustainable ones! for example softwood are a better choice then hardwoods as they grow a lot quicker
  11. 11what also makes a product more sustainable?Products that use recycled materials are also more environmentally friendly
  12. 12what is even better about some materials when they're thrown away?if made from biodegradable materials or recyclable materials. E.G. waste wood (which is biodegradable) into manufactured boards.
  13. 13what do you need to ask when looking how the product is made?Does the process cause pollution > how much waste is produced and how will it be disposed of.
Does process use a lot of energy > if it sustainable will use renewable energy
Was the product made in good working conditions > if the manufacturer pays the workers fairly, give them protective clothing etc...
