Flashcards
Computing Science
Cards in this deck (14)
- 1Why do programs written in a high level language need to be translated?Computers only understand machine code
- 2Why are there many different programming languages?Because high level languages are often written to solve particular types of problem
- 3What are the main differences between natural languages and programming languages?Natural languages have more complex syntax rules, and can be more ambiguous
- 4What is a low level language?Language used to directly control computers which only contains 0 and 1
- 5What are high level languages?Language that is easier for humans to read but has to be translated into machine code before the computer can use them.
- 6What is the Sequence control structure? The rule that unless otherwise directed, any set of commands will be executed one after the other
- 7What is the Selection control structure? When a decision about which command to execute depends on whether a condition is true or not
- 8What is the Iteration control structure?Where a set of commands is repeated for a set number of times, often called a loop
- 9What is a procedural language? The most common type of programming language. A sequence of commands which will be executed from beginning to end
- 10What is a declarative language?Consists of a set of facts and rules (knowledge base), solutions are found by finding a match between the query and the facts and rules in the knowledge base
- 11What is an object oriented language?A language created to circumvent the problems procedural languages had with GUI's (Graphical User Interfaces)
- 12What is a domain specific language?A subset of procedural languages designed with one specific type of task in mind.
- 13What is a scripting language?Designed to add extra functionality to, or automate an application program or an operating system.
