Testing
Why is testing important?
- to make sure that the system (software) meets the client's requirments
- To make sure that the system returns to the correct results and actually works
- Give confidence to the user; have more faith and confidence in a new system if it has successfully completed and passed all the tests
Errors
- Occur with the software because people are not perfect.
- Error - a human error action that produces an incorrect results
- Fault - a disclosure of an error in the system - also known bugs and defects.
- A fault may cause a software failure; it is a deviation(variation) of the software from what is expected
- Reliability
- Key factor of testing.
- Reliability is the probability that the software will not cause the failure for a specified time under specified conditions.
- Testing is about ensuring the software is reliable.
- Errors could occur due to the pressure and stress of meeting deadlines and meeting the client's requirements.
Risks
- amount of testing that is carried about on a system depends on the risks that are invoved.
- A safety critical system, which would cause more risk if it is failed, would need more testing.
Testing is about identifying the faults and rectifying them to increase the reliability and quality of a system
