Electronic Configuration
In a neutral atom, the number of neutrons is equal to the number of protons (atomic number)
However, these electrons are not arranged randomly but in a regular, ordered way.
They exist as shells around the nucleus (protons and neutrons) but each shell has a finite capacity.
The shell is the same as the number of columns in that row of the periodic table.
How to determine the electric configuration in a element.
- 1. Determine the number of electrons ( equal to atomic number)
- 2. Identify which row it is in.
- 3. Identify which column it is in
- 4. Write the number of electrons in each cell by separated columns.
- Check the total electrons from 4. Equal the total in 1
