The periodic table

1. Arranged in increasing atomic order

2. Vertical columns are called groups

   • 8 groups in total

3. Horizontal rows are called periods

4. Non-Metals on the right and metals on the left

5. In a group they all have the same number of electrons in the outer shell so all have similar chemical properties

6. In a period, the atoms go up by one electron as you go across.

7. Noble Gases (Group 8/0)

   • Inert gasses
     • Very unreactive
       • Not very stable
