Tourist Attractions
- Manmade Forest
- Comments: Very recognisable landmark due to its proximity to the Singapore Airport, and therefore a popular destination even for tourists just stopping over in the airport. Distinct and unique landmark very recognisable as being from Singapore, unlike any landmarks anywhere else. Due to the intricate nature of the branches, it would be very difficult to 3D print or lasercut if made as a model, and the light-up feature of the trees would be difficult to replicate on such a small scale.
- Ferris Wheel
- Comments: Ferris wheels are highly generic as an attraction and very much not unique to Singapore. This Ferris wheel has little to distinguish it from any other wheel around the world, and as such is probably not the best idea for a souvenir. On top of this, to actually design and make a Ferris wheel would be extremely difficult even using 3D printing or laser cutting.
- Manmade Forest
Culture and History
- Garuda Bird
- Comments: National symbol of Singapore, very prominent in the culture and recognisable as a Singapore souvenir. Difficult to make as a 3 dimensional product, but a good design for a motif on a separate souvenir, more functional than a model such as a key-chain or a mug
- Merlion
- Comments: Distinct and recognisable as a part of Singapore's tourism and culture, and very common souvenir already. Quite difficult to draw in CAD with adequate detail, and drawing it with less detail makes the product much poorer quality and less recognisable, so perhaps not the best fit for a souvenir
- Garuda Bird
Architecture
- Singapore Flower Dome
- Comments: Less recognisable landmark for tourists, and few clear ties to the cultural identity, meaning that it isn't distinctly "Singaporean". while simplistic appearing and minimalistic looking, this couldn't be easily laser cut or 3D printed due to the shape and precise divots in the spherical building
- Marina Bay Sands
- Comments: Very recognisable icon of Singapore, interesting design that embodies the nature of architecture in Singapore with intelligent use of space and visually appealing nature. The design is quite complex but doable using CAD software, and a 2D representation of this landmark would not have the desired look or affect, so a 3 dimensional object is greatly preferable. Because of the overhanging nature of the top of the buildings, the use of disolvable material in the 3D printer would be necessary in order to maintain strength as the printer material dries. Alternatively the model could be made into individual pieces and assembled later
