1. Parts of a computer

   • CPU
     • fetch decode execute cycle processes instructions
   • GPU
     • processes graphics
   • RAM
     • currently used programmes are stored here
   • Motherboard
     • allows components to connect
   • secondary storage
     • long term storage

     • allows LAN communication

2. fetch decode execute cycle

   • instructions come from the memory, the CPU will need to know the address and data and then the process is carried out, then all is sent back to the data

3. types of storage

   • optical,magnetic,solid state

4. Von Neumann

   • Memory Address Register/ Memory Data Register
     • MAR is responsible for sending the address to the CPU
     • MDR responsible for sending data to the CPU
   • Arithmetic and logic unit
     • logic unit is responsible for checking answers to a true or false system
     • arithmetic unit is responsible for calculations
     • accumulator is responsible for storing the last answer

5. Embedded system

   • these chips are responsible for controlling small jobs in the computer
     • for example a microwaves embedded system controls the clock for the count down
