Secondary storage

  1. Secondary storage is non volatile storage which stores data permanently

  2. Optical storage

    • Advantage:The portability of optical storage is good therefore it's not that hard to use in devices.
    • Disadvantage:The capacity of optical storage is very low therefore it isn't cost effective.
    • Blu-ray
    • DVD
    • CD
  3. Magnetic storage

    • Disadvantage: It contains moving parts so it's not very portable.
    • It has a high capacity therefore the user can store more files and install more programs
    • Hard disk drive(HDD)
  4. Solid State (flash) storage

    • Advantage: It has no moving parts so it is portable and has good durability.
    • Disadvantage: It is less cost effective unless you need it for a business therfore it has a fast read/write speed.
    • SanDisk 240GB SSD
    • Advantage:The durability is better than magnetic storage because solid state has no moving parts.
    • Advantage:Has good read/write speed therefore is really useful if you need to send data somewhere.
  5. Magnetic is more cost effective compared to solid state therefore if you are not using it for business or not sending work anywhere then magnetic storage would be the best.

  6. Solid state is better than optical storage because they both have good portability but solid state has faster read/write speed than it.
