Transitions

  1. Theme

    • Tableau x2 - ensemble creates a tableau for each scene, cast considers similarities and differences between the two by comparing/contrasting to gain insights
    • "On my Command' - director calls a series of commands such as 'sky, floor, centre, walls'. The ensemble continue without the commands - Woyzeck does the opposite to the rest of the ensemble to highlight themes of isolation/confustion
    • Metaphor - ensemble creates a tableau to reflect a metaphor in each scene
    • "Walk, Clap/Freeze, Pose" - Director calls the series of commands, adding a theme/issue after the clap; actors create a still image/pose to reflect the theme
  2. Mood/Atmosphere

    • Respond to Music - director selects 2 pieces of music, actors respond using movement, compare and contrast
    • Entrances and Exits - experiment with actors entering and exiting at various points; reflect insights regarding stage type/audience impact
    • Drumming - crowd scenes enter/exit to the beat, variations of pace, rhythm and tempo for the end of one scene and the beginning of another
    • Narration - actors improvise a narration to create a link between two scenes and provide insight
    • Lighting States - explore the impact of different lighting states at the end of one scene and the beginning of another; e.g. full wash to spotlight and vice versa
    • Alexander Technique - Breath - slow intake of breath, exhale the emotion of the lines at the end of one scene and the beginning of the next
    • Identify the mood at the end of one scene and the beginning of another
