Chapt.16 - The Internet and E-commerce

1. Internet - The term internet refers to a global communication network that permits all types of computers running internet protocol (IP) to connect and exchange data, opinions and news.

   • Modulator-demodulator. Electronic device that allows computers to communicate over telephone wires or cable-TV cable. One computer's modem converts its digital signals (which cannot be sent efficiently over phone lines) into analogue signals (which can be).
   • Internet Service Provider(ISP)
   • Web browser - Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox etc.
   • Social Media- Large portion of the internet, emails, blogs, online SMS etc.

2. E - commerce - System that allows customers to access business's website to obtain or sell goods.

   • Also known as online shopping such as Amazon, EBay, supermarkets with shopping websites etc.
