Electronic Configuration

  1. In a neutral atom, the number of neutrons is equal to the number of protons (atomic number)

  2. However, these electrons are not arranged randomly but in a regular, ordered way.

  3. They exist as shells around the nucleus (protons and neutrons) but each shell has a finite capacity.

  4. The shell is the same as the number of columns in that row of the periodic table.

  5. How to determine the electric configuration in a element.

    • 1. Determine the number of electrons ( equal to atomic number)
    • 2. Identify which row it is in.
    • 3. Identify which column it is in
    • 4. Write the number of electrons in each cell by separated columns.
    • Check the total electrons from 4. Equal the total in 1
