Men and women in the family

1. Men and women are made in the image of God. God made humans to be different.

2. Parts of the Bible suggests women where made for men.

   • Could be read as the fact that men are head of the household.
     • Some view this as outdated.

3. Catholics know men and women were made in the image of God.

   • Created physically different. Women were designed to assist men. Men were designed to farm the land.
     • Complementary roles.

4. Many Christians see men and women as equal. Either can look after the home/ family.

5. Against equality

   • It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (Genesis 2:18)
   • Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (Genesis 2:22)
   • Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord (Ephesians 5:21-22)

6. For equality

   • Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians)
   • So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis)
   • For God does not show favouritism. (Romans)
