     • wants to become king of scotland
       • will do any thing to make it happen
     • has doubts
       • doing the right thing?
       • spend lots of time feeling quilty
     • influenced
       • he is weak
   • Brave hero
     • warrior
       • described as a "valiant" warrior
       • rosse compares him to " Bellona's brifdgroom"
     • Thane of Cawdor
     • confortable on battlefield
       • when fighting doesn't have to worry about his guilty conscience
       • he dies in battle too
       • fight "bear like" to the end
       • he's domed.
         • determined to "try the last" says he "will not yield"
   • Brutal murderer
     • Cold and calculating killer
       • murders King Duncan
         • because he wants to become king
       • murders Macduff's family and Banquo
         • because he's worried about loosing his position
     • Influenced by the people around him
       • Allowed Lady Macbeth persuade him to kill King Duncan
         • because he wants to become king
           • his ambition is stronger then his morality
     • end of play
       • Macduff calls macbeth " hell - hound" and young siward calls him "abhorred tyrant"
