Stocky, full-bodied woman, did not have any dance lessons, started out as an actress in Wild West
She discovered the use of the different lighting in dance
She relied more on her skirt, light and color because she was not much of a technical dancer
She experimented with chemicals and fabric in her laboratory and part of her hair was blown off in an explosion once; people called her a witch
Choreographed SERPENTINE
She helped give Isadora Duncan her start in Europe
