User Interfaces
Command line interface: users type in instructions and the system provides a result. Found in older devices with limited storage.
Menu driven interface: Options can be selected from a menu and trigger a command. Easier to use but takes more time when reading thru menu
- Ex: ATM
Graphical user interface: Uses windows, icons, menus etc. Easiest type of interface but takes up more memory and storage than MDI or CLI
Voice Interface: User gives spoken commands to a device with voice recognition software, which tries to find a match against a library of words.. Requires internet access. Hands free operation is possible. Sometimes device won't be able to find a match or returns incorrect result.
- Ex: Cars - to improve road safety
Gesture Interface: allows user to control device by gestures (swiping, pinching)
- Ex: Touch screens
